8 Ways To Know What Your Target Market Want (Part 2)


This is the second part of a two video series talking about eight effective
ways that we can find out what our target market is demanding and what the challenges, needs wants and desires of people in our target market are.

In the previous video I spoke about power of surveys, forums, social media and events workshops and seminars.

These are four ways to gauge our target market and to identify needs, desires and wants within our target market .

So in this video we are going to talk about the next four.

So number five now on our list, is…

Observing and monitoring our competition.

Monitoring our competitors and finding out what they are doing. Jumping on the back of our competitors, and piggyback on their efforts.

One way we can effectively monitor what competition is doing is not only through simple search engine search results, but also through through Facebook.

observe your competition onlineWe can monitor all competitors an pages to see what type of content they’re producing and what type of offers and products they are putting out into the marketplace.

But that would require us to spend a significant amount of time on their profiles and stalking them on Facebook.

 

But another really effective way which I do talk about in my training course (which you can go ahead and click beneath this video for free access) and I suggest you do, is open up a separate email accounts (select a gmail, Yahoo MSN account email account) and go ahead and subscribe to all of your competition’s newsletters and lists.

email swipe fileAnd if you are in the internet marketing online business niche, for instance you can kind of see what I’m doing, you can enter your name and email address in the opt in box provided and can actually subscribe to my list and see what I am doing.

So you will receive emails from me in my inbox, so that way you can see what I’m doing.

And you should do the same with all of your competition.

So go ahead and create a swipe file and a swipe email address. So a separate email address, where you’re subscribing to the newsletters and all of the lists of your competitors.

It’s more than likely that your competitors will have been doing their due-diligence and they will have been doing their research also.

So what you can do is see what they are doing, so we can harness their efforts by by monitoring your competition.

 

So creating a swipe file and subscribing to all of your competitors mailing lists is one really effective and powerful way of keeping your finger on the pulse and seeing what’s hot within your particular target market.

So monitor your competition by creating a swipe email address and creating a swipe file of all your competitors and sign up to their mailing lists and see what they are doing, and see what they are offering and promoting.

So that’s number five.

Number six is simply by talking to your customers and clients.

So the first thing we has were by sending online surveys to your list.

But another thing we can do is simply send our customers and clients a direct email, give them a call, call them up maybe give them a free bonus or a free gift, have something to offer them in return to their time.

customer courtesy calBut call them directly, go ahead and speak to them directly, just add a personal touch to it and simply call them up and ask them how you can help them in the future.

Find out what things they would like, what things would be helpful for them.

 

So go ahead and just see how you can help them.

Obviously we are coming from a value driven perspective here, we’re not selling them anything.

We just want to know how we can provide for them better.

How much more value we can give to them.

How we can help their lives, how can we improve their lives etc.

I want to see what’s important for you, to see what challenges you’re having, and I want to help you with that, so that’s why I always ask you to contact me with your challenges so I can find out what I can help you with.

So simply by contacting your customers and clients directly is a really powerful and effective way of gauging what our market needs.

Another way is to simply go ahead and open your inbox.

We talked about having an active swipe file, but just go ahead now if you haven’t actually created a swipe file yet.

Before you do that, maybe take like 30 minutes and scan through your own personal inbox and see what things you have subscribed to and what things people are offering you.

check your inboxI’m sure at this stage in the game, you would have already been subscribing to several people’s lists and you would have opted into various mailing lists.

So see what’s happening now and see what’s contemporary.

So go ahead head and click your inbox and take, 5 10 to 30 minutes even browsing your own involved in seeing what offers are going at the moment you know what the latest talking points are.

And that’s a really powerful way of just straight away knowing what’s contemporary and what’s hot in your particular target market at the moment.

Finally this is a really powerful strategy…

 Creating intelligence campaigns.

This is quite an advanced technique, which professional and astute marketers do, because they are always one step ahead of the game.

And It’s a really clever and effective strategy.

intelligence cmpaignsIt’s an advanced technique but it’s not hard, it’s easy to do.

So you set up a paid campaign to build your list or to push and sell a product. We do the same thing.

But what we’re doing, is we’re pushing market research.

So say for example we have a Facebook pay-per-click campaign. And when a person clicks on the ad we send them to a landing page which is asking them to send us their number one question that they need help for or their top concern need or desire.
So say for example you are marketing to dog owners (that’s your niche).

You create a landing page which is basically asking people to send their top burning concern or the burning need or desire that they have.

market research data collection So basically you do that you’re not selling anything, you’re just gathering data at this point and you see a pay-per-click campaign e.g. set $100 or $200 aside and create this campaign as an intelligence campaign.

Where you are simply sending people to a landing page, asking them to send you their number one burning desire of the number one burning challenge, or the top three needs, desires wants and challenges and getting them to send you this.

And after that campaign is up (as well as acquiring fresh warm, targeted leads), you will have and amazing set of contemporary, up to date, real world findings and data direct from your target market, directly telling you what they want and what they need.

And then all you do after that, is go to work and start producing and creating valuable products, content and services for them based on these answers.

So that’s a really powerful way of doing online market research.

8 Ways To Know What Your Target Market Want (Part 1)

There are several ways to know what your target market wants.

Over the next two posts I’m going to identify eight key ways how we can access this information.

The first way you can identify your marketing needs is by online surveys.

online surveysWe have several online survey tools that we can use to send to our prospects in order to identify what they want.

And a really cool survey tool I recommend you use is a piece of online software call Survey Monkey that.

With Survey Monkey you can actually create your own custom surveys, getting your leads and prospects to Identify what they want, and tell you what they want.

And you can send it to them, so they fill out the survey and they give it back to.  And you can give them some sort of incentive for completing the survey.

For example in a free gift of some sort or maybe a kind of coupon or promotion code that enables them to obtain a specific percentage off or a discount on a product.

survey mokeySurvey Monkey is really cool way of using the power of online surveys to send to your list for them to tell you exactly what they want.

So you send this to you list, your list tells you what they want, then you go ahead and create what they want and give it to them.

That’s one really effective and powerful way of utilizing your leads.

 

Getting your leads to tell you what they want and you can go ahead and give them what they want.

It’s simply a case of supply and demand.

So another really effective way of identifying our market needs is by forums.

The vast majority of niches that are available for us to tap into.

Regardless of what your niche is (if you’re in the health niche or weight loss, marketing, electronics, pets, mechanics etc) there will be many forums on this topic.

online forumsAll you have to do is simply conduct a simple Google search for forums in your particular niche.

So say for example your niche is pets…

You could have go to Google and type in “pet forums” or “forums on dogs” (for example) and Google will provide you with tons of forums that are available.

So go ahead and join these forums and get active in these communities, and start researching.

What I suggest you do is go ahead and open a WordPad or notepad document and spend an hour researching and scrolling through all of the different threads and all of the different posts people make.

As well as the comments people make.

study online forumsStudy these forums and identify what people are talking about, and the different discussion points.

What people want and what they need, what they need help with, questions they have, challenges they are facing etc.

And go ahead and copy and paste and make a whole file of all of the different challenges, needs, problems, questions and all of the things that people within your target market are discussing.

Another excellent way to gauge market trends, hot topics and contemporary issues in your particular target market is by groups on Facebook and and various other social networking sites. Facebook groups,

LinkedIn groups, Google+ groups for example and different kind of social networks.

social network groupsThere are loads and loads of different groups that we can join and post on in most cases.  We can engage with group members.

So what I suggest you do, in a similar fashion to forums, scroll these groups and join loads of them.

Maybe spend an hour joining all of the different groups on Google+ and Facebook and Linkedin.

After you’ve done that, do the same thing by opening a up notepad document and scan what people are talking about, what people are posting about, what questions people are asking.

And get an idea as to what your target market are talking about, what they want and what they need.

So go ahead and do that.

social media market researchYou can connect with group members, and you can start talking to them.  Ask them what their needs are and just get to know them.

Come from a value perspective, don’t try to sell them anything at this point.

We’re just trying to know what they want.  What they need, how we can help them and how we can deliver more value to them.

So that’s another way of doing that.

You want to come from the ethical, value driven perspective.

We’re not focusing on selling at the moment…

Just doing market research here.

Fourth way is by connecting with other marketers, business owners and peers within our industry.

One very effective way of doing that is by attending events, workshops and seminars.

Find out who they are, what they are doing, liaise. collaborate and just form friendships and mutually beneficial relationships.

events and seminarsGo for coffee together, meet up, bounce ideas off each other, connect on social media, form mastermind groups with them etc.

And that’s another really powerful way of seeing what ideas they have, and we can use those ideas too.

 

So we can jump on the back of their market research, because maybe they have also done their due diligence too and have also conducted extensive market research themselves.

So by engaging and connecting with people and being friends with them, we can sit down with a coffee, and have a chat and find out what insights they have discovered in terms of what the market want.

online market researchSo those are four really powerful ways of knowing our market and engaging within our market, finding out what the demand is, what the hot topics are.

What is desired and required from our particular target market at the current time.

 

So we have online surveys, forums, social networking groups, seminars, workshops and events.
